i mean, i don’t think of myself as gay.
i am gay, but it isn’t a huge part of who i am. it’s actually kinda a really minor detail in my mind.
i don’t get why it’s such a big thing.
We just talked about this in my Shakespeare class. When people say “homosexuality wasn’t created till the last 100 years,” what they actually mean to say is that people weren’t categorized by their sexual orientation till 100 years ago. It wasn’t that there weren’t homosexual men and women running around 100 years ago, but it wasn’t the first thing that someone talked about when describing them, unlike today. Today we say “oh yeah, he’s tall, blonde and gay.” Then, they would just say “he’s tall and blonde.” There would be no classification of orientation. I find it funny that although we have taken so many steps toward equal rights, both with sexual orientation, race, and gender, we are more classifying now than we were 100 years ago. It’s like we’ve taken two steps forward and one step back.
